The BNIX Service
The BNIX service consists of:
- Access to the layer-2 switched medium.
You are invited to choose between 10/100/1000 Mbit/s (UTP), short distance
(SX) Gigabit Ethernet, long distance (LX) Gigabit Ethernet or 10Gigabit Ethernet (LR or ER) over fiber connections.
- One IPv4 address on the LAN with a reverse DNS mapping in the "bnix.net" domain.
- One IPv6 address on the LAN (on simple request)
- 24x7 watch service, 24x7 hardware maintenance on the BNIX switches.
In addition, you must have an agreement with the co-location
of your choice, before you physically connect to BNIX.
BNIX however:
- Does not provide a connection to the Internet,
you need to contact an ISP for this.
- Does not include a peering agreement with any of the connected ISP's.
- Does not configure VLAN's, for Private Interconnects between members.
- Does not include the rental of a router.
Members are responsible for the purchase, configuration, maintenance and operation of their equipment.
- Does not guarantee the presence of any particular provider.
- Does not assign IP address blocks, register domain names or AS numbers.
Please contact the RIPE (Europe) for this.
Prerequisites
- You must be a recognized legal entity and your business
must be Internet related.
- You must be identified as a Local Internet Registry (i.e. a RIPE
member).
- You must have an own AS number and use BGP4(+) for peerings.
- You may only connect layer-3 packet forwarding devices (IP routers) on the BNIX LAN
which meet the best current practice (BCP) recommendation.
Interconnection policy
Members are not obliged to peer with every other member at the BNIX.
Separate bilateral peering agreements
have to be negotiated between members willing to peer with each other.
BELNET/BNIX will not interfere with these agreements.
Members connected to the BNIX, however are asked to have at least one
active peering.
Direct connections between members are allowed and unrestricted.
It is also allowed to provide or take transit through the BNIX,
although it is recommended to use direct connections between members for this purpose instead.
The BNIX services however do not include the set up of VLAN's for Private Interconnections
between members.
