The predecessor of BICS, has been connected to BNIX since 1997. Already before my time at BICS, I professionally already knew of BNIX. BICS (Belgacom International Carrier Services) provides IP Transit services to multinationals and to big enterprises, who are customer of Belgacom. In the Belgian market it is important to show the fastest possible routes to all other important Belgian service providers, both for hosting and customer access. Additionally, BNIX provides us the platform where operators with whom we have multiple interconnections worldwide can deliver traffic directly in Belgium, without having to be transported over our own backbone. Traffic volumes available for peering within Belgium are quite limited. So connecting to BNIX allows us instant access to the vast majority of the public IP traffic. Therefore is BNIX an integral part of our IP Transit offering as part of the eleven exchanges that BICS is connected to. For our organisation, BNIX remains essential to our Wholesale transit offering in Belgium. We hope to see the internet market expand in Belgium, attracting ever more traffic.
Testimonials
"Neo Telecoms has used BNIX’s services since June 2009 and, after just one year, we have already had to upgrade our connection.
We forecast that our capacity will grow over the coming years. That's why we won't hesitate to connect more sites to BNIX. We see peering as an asset for our network rather than a cost. As far as we're concerned, BNIX is the only Internet eXchange which helps us to achieve quality. BNIX also has a highly competent and increasingly accessible NOC. In addition, BNIX events give us the opportunity to get to know our peers better."
"A large part of our IP traffic is routed via BNIX, an average of 20% to 25%. Our own network performs better that way. Speed increases and good redundancy means improved reliability. The connection quality is better and, through peering agreements with specialist operators, we spread Internet connection costs."
